Die Universität Mannheim punktet bei der Auslandsmobilität: Für ihre sehr gute Umsetzung der Mobilitätsmaßnahmen im ERASMUS-Programm hat die Universität Mannheim gestern das europäische Qualitätssiegel E-Quality 2012 erhalten. Das Qualitätssiegel wird vom Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst (DAAD) einmal jährlich für besondere Verdienste und Leistungen beim ERASMUS-Austausch von deutschen und ausländischen Studierenden, Dozentinnen und Dozenten vergeben. Ziel ist es, den Austausch weiter zu verbessern. Neben der Universität Mannheim wurden 12 weitere Universitäten ausgezeichnet.
„Über die Auszeichnung freuen wir uns sehr. Das Akademische Auslandsamt der Universität hat zusammen mit den Fachbereichen in den vergangen Jahren sehr viel dafür getan, nicht nur die Austauschzahlen zu steigern, sondern auch eine stetige Verbesserung der Qualität bei der Betreuung der Studierenden zu erreichen“, sagte Birgit Heilig, Leiterin des Akademischen Auslandsamts der Universität Mannheim.
So achtet die Universität etwa bei der Auswahl internationaler Partner insbesondere auf eine hohe akademische Qualität und die Kompatibilität des Lehrangebotes. Um möglichst vielen Mannheimer Studierenden einen Auslandsstudienaufenthalt anbieten zu können, wurden langfristig geplante Maßnahmen ergriffen, um die Universität attraktiver für ausländische Austauschstudierende zu machen und damit gegenseitige Austauschprogramme zu
befördern: Zum einen wurde in vielen Fachbereichen das englischsprachige Angebot vergrößert, und zum anderen wurden die Semesterzeiten den international üblichen Zeiten angepasst.
Ergebnis dieser Maßnahmen ist, dass die Universität nicht nur qualitativ, sondern auch quantitativ bei den Auslandsaufenthalten in der obersten Liga
spielt: Mit 440 Erasmus-Outgoing-Studierenden im akademischen Jahr 2010/11 und 520 im Jahr 2011/12 gehört die Universität Mannheim zur Spitze der im Erasmus-Programm aktiven Universitäten, sowohl relativ zur Größe als auch in absoluten Zahlen gemessen. In den vergangenen fünf Jahren hat sich die Zahl der Studierenden, die einen Teil ihres Studiums im Ausland verbringen, verdoppelt. Bemerkenswert ist auch die hohe Zahl von Gaststudierenden an der Universität (derzeit 787, davon 367 im ERASMUS-Programm). Das Akademische Auslandsamt unterstützt die ausländischen Studierenden bereits in der Vorbereitungsphase, hilft bei Fragen und Anliegen vor Ort und organisiert in Zusammenarbeit mit verschiedenen hiesigen Studierendenvereinigungen beispielsweise ein Buddy-Programm für die Zeit des Austauschs.
Die Universität pflegt mehr als 350 bilaterale Erasmus-Austauschvereinbarungen mit Partnerhochschulen in fast allen am Erasmus-Programm beteiligten Ländern. Weiterhin bestehen über 160 Kooperationen außerhalb des Erasmus-Programms, insbesondere mit überseeischen Partnern.
Das ERASMUS-Programm gibt es bereits seit 25 Jahren. Rund 2,5 Millionen Studierende und mehr als 300.000 Dozenten aus 31 europäischen Ländern wurden mit dem Programm bisher gefördert.
