Die Universität Mannheim vergibt zum kommenden Semester so viele Stipendien wie nie zuvor: Über 200 Studierende werden ab Herbst in vier verschiedenen Stipendienprogrammen gefördert. Schon jetzt hat die Universität Fördergelder für 101 Deutschlandstipendien eingeworben und damit in diesem Jahr als eine der ersten Universitäten das von der Bundesregierung vorgegebene Kontingent von 1 Prozent der Studierenden voll ausgeschöpft. Damit vergibt die Universität Mannheim mehr als doppelt so viele Deutschlandstipendien wie im vergangenen Jahr. Dazu kommen Stipendien in weiteren Programmen wie die Mannheimer Stipendien und Sportstipendien. Mehr als 1.000 Studierende hatten sich auf die Ausschreibungen beworben.
Insgesamt werden 1,7 Prozent der Studierenden gefördert. Zu den Stipendiengebern zählen unter anderem die BASF SE, Rudolf Wild GmbH & Co. KG, Bilfinger Berger SE, Allianz Deutschland AG, die Freunde der Universität Mannheim (FUM), die Roche Diagnostics GmbH und die ERGO Versicherungsgruppe.
Deutschlandstipendium
Die Bundesregierung hat die Förderquote für das Deutschlandstipendium von 0,45 Prozent für jede Hochschule im vergangenen Jahr auf 1 Prozent der Studierenden angehoben. Auf dieser Grundlage kann die Universität Mannheim 101 Deutschlandstipendien vergeben. Auch wenn mehr Förderer bereitstehen, ist dies die maximale Anzahl an Deutschlandstipendien, die die Universität Mannheim dieses Jahr vergeben darf. Ein Drittel dieser Stipendien muss dabei fachunabhängig vergeben werden; die Universität Mannheim übertrifft diese Quote sogar um vier Prozent. Das Deutschlandstipendium umfasst 300 Euro pro Monat. Die Hälfte davon übernimmt ein privater Mittelgeber, die andere Hälfte finanziert die Bundesregierung.
Mannheimer Stipendium
Das Mannheimer Stipendium umfasst eine Förderung von 1.800 Euro pro Jahr. Zum kommenden Herbstsemester vergibt die Universität 56 Mannheimer Stipendien. Die Universität wählt die Stipendiatinnen und Stipendiaten gemeinsam mit dem jeweiligen Förderer aus; das Stipendium wird für zunächst ein Jahr vergeben.
Mannheimer Sportstipendium
Das Sportstipendium soll Studierenden ermöglichen, Spitzensport und Studium miteinander zu vereinbaren. Neben einer materiellen Förderung umfasst das Stipendium eine intensive persönliche Betreuung durch eine eigens dafür geschaffene Koordinierungsstelle. Die Stipendiaten werden für die Dauer des kompletten Studiums gefördert. In diesem Jahr wird die Universität Mannheim zwölf Sportstipendien vergeben. Insgesamt werden dann 38 studierende Spitzensportlerinnen und -sportler unterstützt. Finanziert wird das Sportstipendium durch den Unternehmer Klaus Greinert und seine Familie.
Individuelle Programme
Darüber hinaus bietet die Universität Mannheim weitere individuelle Programme: Ein Stipendium richtet sich beispielsweise an Waisen und Sozialwaisen. Außerdem beteiligt sich die Universität am DAAD-Programm Promos, mit dem Auslandsaufenthalte von Studierenden gefördert werden. Bereits seit 2007, vier Jahre vor Einführung des Deutschlandstipendiums, honoriert die Universität Mannheim besondere Schul- und Studienleistungen mit Stipendien. Die Unterstützung wird von Unternehmen, Stiftungen, Absolventen und Freunden der Universität bereitgestellt. Damit besitzt die Universität Mannheim eines der vielfältigsten Stipendiensysteme einer staatlichen Hochschule in Deutschland.
