Oberbürgermeister und Bürgermeister warnen vor einem NEIN bei dem Bürgerentscheid
Der Oberbürgermeister Dr. Peter Kurz sowie Erster Bürgermeister Christian Specht, die Bürgermeisterinnen Dr. Ulrike Freundlieb und Felicitas Kubala und die Bürgermeister Michael Grötsch und Lothar Quast wenden sich in einer gemeinsamen Erklärung an die Mannheimerinnen und Mannheimer. In ihr befassen Sie sich mit den Folgen einer Ablehnung der Bundesgartenschau, da die Risiken, die sich mit einem NEIN zur Bundesgartenschau verbinden, bislang wenig diskutiert seien.
Die Stadt Mannheim habe sich in einem dynamischen und bislang erfolgreichen Prozess der größten städtebaulichen und wirtschaftlichen Herausforderung nach dem Wiederaufbau der Nachkriegszeit gestellt: Der Umgestaltung der ehemaligen amerikanischen Militärflächen („Konversion“). Diese Aufgabe werde nur gelingen mit einer Vision, mit Dynamik, mit Zutrauen in die eigene Gestaltungskraft und mit dem Vertrauen von Menschen und Unternehmen in den Standort Mannheim.
Dafür stehe die Bundesgartenschau und das „JA“ zur Bundesgartenschau.
Oberbürgermeister und Bürgermeister sagen: „Ein NEIN wäre ein schwerer Rückschlag auf unserem Weg, die Konversion zur Chance für Mannheim zu machen. Die Gegner der Bundesgartenschau behaupten: Alle Ziele, die wir mit einer Bundesgartenschau verfolgen, seien auch ohne Bundesgartenschau zu erreichen. Das ist falsch.
So sind die Impulse für Mannheims Wirtschaft infolge von 100 Millionen Euro Investitionen und 2,8 Millionen Besuchern bei Handel und Dienstleistung sowie die Folgeinvestitionen von Privaten bei einem NEIN verloren.
Den geplanten großen Grünzug umfassend erlebbar zu machen und qualitativ gut zu gestalten, ist bei einem NEIN nicht möglich, da Zuschüsse des Landes fehlen. Ein deutliches Mehr an Lebensqualität geht verloren.
Auch der klare Zeitplan der Umgestaltung der ehemals militärischen Flächen ist bei einem NEIN zur BUGA nicht zu halten.
Die Marke „Wohnen und Arbeiten am BUGA-Park“ geht verloren. Die notwendigen ambitionierten Investoren für Käfertal-Süd, im Rott und den Altbestand der Spinelli-Kaserne sind bei einem NEIN zum großen Teil gar nicht mehr oder erst zu viel späterer Zeit zu gewinnen.“
Im Wettbewerb der Städte sieht die Verwaltungsspitze den Verlust besonders deutlich: „Die Chance, Mannheim mit dem großen, bundesweit wahrgenommen Entwicklungsprojekt BUGA als lebenswerte Stadt zu präsentieren, entfällt mit einem NEIN. Wir würden die Chance vergeben, Mannheim im nächsten Jahrzehnt mit einem Gemeinschaft stiftenden Projekt zu gestalten und zu bewegen.“
Deutlich widersprechen alle Bürgermeister und der OB auch der Behauptung einiger Gegner des Projekts, eine Bundesgartenschau sei auch bei einem NEIN möglich: „Dies ist ganz und gar unrealistisch und führt in die Irre. Hinter dem NEIN steht keine Gestaltungskraft und keine Vision.“
Deshalb sind sich OB und Bürgermeister einig: „Es geht am 22. September um eine klare Entscheidung. Es geht um ein JA zu den Chancen, die sich mit der vorgeschlagenen Bundesgartenschau verbinden. Ein JA zur dynamischen Entwicklung der Stadt Mannheim.“
