In der Weihnachtszeit ist die Mannheimer Innenstadt besonders attraktiv: Ein einzigartiger Mix aus bundesweiten Filialisten und unverwechselbaren Einzelhändlern lockt Besucher aus der gesamten Region ebenso an wie mehrere Weihnachtsmärkte, liebevoll gestaltete Schaufenster und stimmungsvolle Straßenbeleuchtung. Damit die City für Bewohner und Besucher gut erreichbar bleibt, hat die Stadt Mannheim gemeinsam mit der Rhein-Neckar Verkehr GmbH (RNV), der Mannheimer Parkhausbetriebe GmbH und dem Einzelhandel ein umfassendes Konzept für diese Zeit entwickelt: Ein kostenloses Park + Ride-Angebot und kostenfreies Parken in ausgewählten Parkhäusern sollen helfen, die Verkehrssituation zu entspannen. Details stellten Erster Bürgermeister und ÖPNV-Dezernent Christian Specht, Baubürgermeister Lothar Quast, Wirtschaftsbürgermeister Michael Grötsch und Lutz Pauels, 1. Vorsitzender der Werbegemeinschaft Mannheim City e. V., der Öffentlichkeit vor.
Park&Ride
„Im letzten Jahr hat unser kostenfreies Park&Ride-Angebot dazu beigetragen, den Autoverkehr in der Innenstadt zu verringern: Über 3.000 Besucher haben ihre PKW am Friedensplatz geparkt und sind mit der Stadtbahn in die Fußgängerzone und zurück gefahren“, berichtet Specht. „Diesen besonderen Service bieten wir auch 2013 wieder an allen Adventssamstagen und am Samstag nach Weihnachten an.“ Zusätzlich zu den ohnehin vorhandenen rund 12.000 Parkplätzen in der Mannheimer Innenstadt stehen so auf dem Friedensplatz am Technoseum (Navi-Adresse: Museumsstraße) weitere 1800 Plätze bereit.
„In zehn Minuten erreichen unsere Besucher dann vom Parkplatz aus mit der Straßenbahn die Innenstadt – kostenfrei, stressfrei, staufrei und umweltfreundlich“, schildert Specht die Vorzüge des Park&Ride. Die Züge verkehren zwischen der Haltestelle ‚Luisenpark‘ und dem Paradeplatz von 10 bis 18 Uhr im Zehn-Minuten-Takt. 14 eigens montierte P+R-Schilder weisen ab dem Flugplatz Neuostheim an der B37 sowie in der Theodor-Heuß-Anlage den Weg. Insgesamt rund 30.000 Euro investieren Stadt, Einzelhandel und RNV gemeinsam in das Park&Ride-Angebot.
