Das Publikum wählte in zwei Kategorien unter jeweils drei Filmen aus und kürte „I love Mannheim“ der Katholischen Kindertagesstätte St. Lioba Mannheim und „Leben im Quadrat“ von creatist | Agentur für Medien zu den Siegern.Ist Mannheim liebenswert? Wenn man die sechs Finalisten des Mannheim-Awards 2012 fragt, gibt es daran keinen Zweifel. Von April bis Dezember hatten insgesamt 17 Hobby-Filmemacher und sieben professionelle Medienschaffende unter dem Motto „Eine Liebes-erklärung an Mannheim“ Filme für den Wettbewerb des Stadtmarketing Mannheim gedreht. Am Freitag präsentierten die jeweils drei Finalisten in den beiden Kategorien „Professional“ und „Non-Professional“ ihre 90-sekündigen Spots der Publikumsjury des spotlight Festivals. Per Knopfdruck entschieden über 1000 Besucher über die Gewinner des Awards und wählten „I love Mannheim “ der Katholischen Kindertagesstätte St. Lioba Mannheim und „Leben im Quadrat“ von creatist | Agentur für Medien auf die beiden ersten Plätze. Beide Sieger erhalten jeweils 5000 Euro. Überreicht wurden die Preise von Dr. Christoph Siegel, Standortverantwortlicher des Mercedes-Werks Mannheim, das den ersten Preis für die „Professionals“ stiftete, und Stadtmarketing-Geschäftsführer Johann W. Wagner.
Wie groß die Resonanz auf den Wettbewerb ist, beweisen die Gewinner creatist, die aus Hessen stammen. Ein Kommilitone hatte Dennis Schmelz, dessen Bruder Florian die Agentur leitet, auf den Award aufmerksam gemacht: „Wir waren beide erst einmal in Mannheim, aber die Idee, einen Imagefilm für die Stadt zu drehen reizte uns. Im Internet haben wir uns informiert und den Film in zwei Tagen gedreht“, erinnert sich Schmelz. An dem Gewinn möchten die Brüder alle Mitwirkenden beteiligen, der Rest soll in die Agentur gesteckt werden: „Dank Mercedes Benz können wir in neues Equipment Ausrüstung investieren. Dafür möchten wir uns herzlich bedanken.“
Für Magdalena Stoltmann, Leiterin der Katholischen Kindertagesstätte St. Lioba, kam der Sieg überraschend. Umso größer war die Freude. „In Mannheim gibt es unheimlich viel für Kinder zu entdecken. Mit dem Film wollten wir zeigen, wie sie die Stadt sehen und was sie hier mit der Kindertagesstätte oder ihren Eltern alles erleben“, erklärt Magdalena Stoltmann. Für Begeisterung sorgte der Spot nicht nur beim Festival-Publikum, auch Moderator Oliver Kalkofe war von dem Film beeindruckt: „Da lernt man ja richtig was! Wussten Sie, dass das Spaghetti-Eis hier erfunden wurde? Ab sofort werde ich immer an Mannheim denken, wenn ich täglich ein Spaghetti-Eis esse.“
Die jeweils zweiten Plätze des Mannheim-Awards 2012 gingen im Bereich „Non-Professional“ an Bilal Yildirim für „Monnem – ich lieb dich!“ und in der Kategorie „Professionals“ an die Mannheimer Agentur Art Monkeys Galerie mit „Wir sind Mannheim“. Die dritten Plätze belegten Michael Remler mit „Begegnungen“ und die Agentur 22Media mit „Mannheim Speed Shoot“.
Neben den Wahrzeichen der Stadt wie dem Wasserturm oder dem Schloss zeigten alle 24 Filme vor allem Menschen, die die Stadt zu dem machen, was sie ist. Somit griffen sowohl die Hobby-Filmemacher als auch die professionellen Medienschaffenden die Idee des Wettbewerbs auf: „Ziel war es, die Bürgerinnen und Bürger in die Außendarstellung der Stadt einzubeziehen. Schließlich sind sie ihre besten Botschafterinnen und Botschafter“, erklärt Marion Treu, Leiterin der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der Stadtmarketing Mannheim GmbH.
